Dr. Rossella Marino
She is an academic and singersongwriter. She got her PhD in Social Work and Social Welfare Studies from Ghent University in 2023 and since then she has taught Social Work and Social Pedagogy Literature and Comparative Social Work in the same institution. Her research revolves around the coloniality of humanitarianism and (global) migration governance, with a focus on return migration to The Gambia. Her publications have been featured in key international journals and blogs relating to migration and borders, geopolitics and coloniality. Additionally, she makes music. She regularly plays her original music in Brussels venues, exploring her personal journey as a Southern Italian woman living abroad as well as advancing anti-capitalist, anti-colonial and feminist messages through reggae, acoustic rock and pop tunes.
